Into the tiles, or onto the lot. The Grand Prairie has no grade to speak of, which is why it was tiled for corn. A June cell that exceeds the tile comes up through the sump and along the basement wall. Looking for a creek is the wrong map. The map is the old field drains under the subdivision.
The street did not flood. Why is there water on the basement floor?
Because it came from below. Tiles hold the prairie water table just under the floor, and a surcharge lifts it through cracks and the sump pit. Surface flooding and hydrostatic pressure are different jobs. A dry street is not a dry basement on this clay.
If the tile is still working, is the house dry?
Working is not the same as dry. A functioning tile keeps the field farmable; it does not keep a basement wall below the water it is carrying. The drain is a farm tool running under a 1985 house. It was never sized as a foundation drain, and a wet June shows the difference.
