Why does a dry island still have a mold season?
Because the rain arrives in bursts after long dry stretches. Roofing and sealants shrink and crack through the trade-wind months, so the first Kona storm of March finds openings that were not there in November. A wet climate keeps materials swollen and sealed; a dry one lets them open and then soaks them all at once.
Is single-wall construction actually harder to dry?
It is faster to wet and slower to isolate. There is no cavity to contain a leak, so water runs along the framing and appears rooms away within minutes. Drying is then a whole-wall problem rather than a cavity problem, and the stain you can see is rarely the full extent of what is wet.
