The street is dry after July. How is the basement wet?
Karst. The rain went into a sink two lots over and came back in a conduit under the footing. A 1975 basement over that maze is a hole in a pipe you cannot see at grade. Looking at the Dix palisade for a flood will miss water that never used the river.
A ranch on residual clay. Is that a limestone job too?
Not the same one. Clay perches July rain and sends it into tile; the karst is under the older core. A wet wall on clay is a perch story. Treating it like a conduit basement will have you dye-testing a lot that never swallows.
Lime mortar in the old core. Is the palisade in the brick or the fill?
The fill, usually. Those blocks sit on residual clay and dumped grade over limestone, and lime takes water from that mix whenever a July cell restocks the karst. The palisade is scenery. The wick is the grade the brick was bedded on.
