Mold Removal & Remediation in Sanford, ME
Containment, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatment remove mold colonies at the source and stop cross-contamination through the rest of the home. Mold remediation removes affected porous materials and corrects the moisture source that allowed growth. The work is done under containment with HEPA filtration so spores are not carried into unaffected rooms, and the area is cleared only once the underlying moisture problem has been resolved.
Remediation is the step after the assessment, not before it. A local pro establishes how far the growth extends and what is feeding it, because removing what is visible while the moisture source is still running puts the same colony back in the same wall. Texas and several other states also set a square-footage point above which the work has to be done by a licensed remediator — the service note below covers where that line falls in this city.
Every pro in our network is licensed and insured in Maine.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the autumn rain more consequential than summer rain?
Because of what follows it. Soil saturated in October freezes with that water in it, and frozen saturated ground expands and moves what it surrounds. The same rainfall in July would evaporate and be forgotten; in October it becomes a structural input for the whole winter.
Are ice dams a roof problem?
Usually not. They form when heat escaping into the attic melts snow on the upper roof, the meltwater runs to a cold eave and refreezes there, and the growing ridge backs water under the shingles. The cause is insulation and air sealing; the roof is where the symptom appears.
The older housing seems to be on the worst ground. Why?
Because it was sited for the mill. Housing went up close to the water that drove the industry, which meant the lowest ground in town. It made sense industrially and left the oldest, least protected buildings in the least favorable drainage position.
