The gorge is sixty feet down. The terrace is holding perched water on till. June rain that entered the slope above the walk-out is still moving, and the buried wall is the dam. Overbank flow is a different, rarer job on the flats. If the river is quiet and the buried wall is wet, stay on the terrace till, not on a flood map.
A later slab toward Apple Valley. Is the river still in play?
Not as flood. Those upland lots take June as runoff into the same ravines that feed the gorge. A slab can take a wet edge from a swale that silted shut, with the river behaving itself a mile away and a hundred feet below. Apple Valley-side slabs fail from a swale, not from Black Dog overbank flow, so a river gauge will not explain them.
