Testing & Assessment
Mold Inspection & Testing in Mount Airy, NC
An assessor determines whether mold is present, identifies where it is growing, and measures how far it has spread — before any remediation quote is issued. A mold inspection locates moisture and growth that a room-level look would miss, reading wall cavities, subfloor, and the areas behind finished surfaces. The result is a scope: what is affected, what has to come out, and what is driving the moisture.

Most people reach this page after noticing something rather than after something broke: a smell that returns, a stain that spreads, a room that feels damp. An inspection answers what is actually there and where the moisture comes from, which is the information every later decision depends on. Several states, Texas among them, keep assessment and remediation as separate licensed roles specifically so the party identifying the problem is not the party selling the fix. Nothing here is medical advice — if you have health questions, those are for a clinician.

Frequently asked questions
Water arrives at the foundation with no sign of it on the surface. How?
Because it is running on rock a few feet down rather than on the ground you can see. Soil here is shallow over granite, so rain soaks in until it reaches the rock and then travels sideways along that surface following the slope. A foundation cut down to the ledge sits directly across that path, and the water arrives at the wall having never been visible.
Why do storms here seem heavier than the forecast suggests?
The escarpment rising to the northwest lifts moist air as it approaches, which intensifies rainfall on this side well beyond what a regional forecast implies. The practical effect is that hourly intensity is higher than the annual total suggests, and intensity is what overwhelms shallow soil. Fifty inches spread evenly would behave very differently from fifty arriving in bursts.
Can drainage work at all where there is rock this close to the surface?
It can, but it has to work with the rock rather than through it. There is no point trying to send water downward into granite. What works is intercepting it above the house at the soil-rock contact where it is already traveling, and giving it a graded route around the foundation to daylight. That follows the path the water is on rather than fighting it.
