Can the tide really affect a basement?
In the lower parts of town, yes. A tidal river holds groundwater up along its corridor, and that level moves with the tide as well as with the season. A basement there can be damp during a dry week for reasons unrelated to rainfall, which makes the pattern confusing at first.
Why does October rain matter more than July rain?
