Stained water in a cellar here — Lackawanna silt or northern-field drainage?
Mine drainage is iron-stained and can arrive with no storm. Creek water in June is siltier and arrives with a rise. The color and the calendar together say which supply is open. A dry-week stain on the gravity-railroad terrace is usually the northern field; a June stain is usually the Lackawanna headwaters.
