There is no other town for miles. Does that change how water reaches a house?
It changes the catchment. With no neighboring grid to intercept runoff, arroyos that start on the ranches west of town still arrive here. A September remnant that fell on caliche ten miles out can cross a slab that stayed dry in the storm itself. The remnant is the pulse. The standing problem is the river's water table. A terrace house can wet from below on a fair week because the Rio Grande is holding the ground up. The remnant then tests openings that were already damp. A fair-week wet slab in Nye or Downtown is the river talking; a remnant just adds a pulse to ground that was already high.
