The river never rose and the slab is wet. Where from?
The laterals. Irrigation canals hold September water against low lots without the river doing anything at all, so the slab wets from the delivery system rather than the channel. The canal runs on a schedule the weather does not set.
Twenty-two inches a year is dry country. Why would September still load a 2000 pad?
Because the year arrives as a handful of cells plus irrigation. The laterals are a water supply even in a dry week. September's 4.61 inches then adds to a grid that was already full for the groves. A desert-edge climate here does not stay sealed; the canals keep it wet from the side.
Only 30 percent of the stock predates 1990. Why would a new pad still take canal water?
New is not high. The boom poured slabs onto the same laterals the groves already used. Later stucco and a wider garage do not raise the ditch. September still sits in the canal against a 2000 stem. The covering is newer; the irrigation grade under Sharyland is not.
