The Sound is calm. Why is the uphill crawlspace wall still wet?
That wall is holding the bluff, not the water. November rain that entered the till above the house is still moving downslope weeks later. The Sound sets the spray question for the beach cottages; the cut slope sets the seepage question, and they are not the same job.
We sit on top of Highline, not the beach. Is the Sound still involved?
As spray, no. As the reason the bluff is there, and as the destination of every roof on the bench, yes. The top-side problem is till against the buried wall. The beach problem is overwash. Same November, two elevations, two mechanisms.
A 1966 crawlspace cut into till. Was it built to drain the hill?
On the Highline face, rarely. That vintage stacked the wall against the bluff and trusted the grade. Tile is uncommon, and the next house upslope leaves no trench. Coatings inside will not stop till water held on the buried side. Drain the cut, or the Sound-side wall will keep reporting it.
