Sewage & Black Water Cleanup in Shoreline, WA

Category 3 black-water losses are handled with full PPE, biohazard disposal, and professional disinfection to restore safe conditions. Sewage backups are Category 3 losses: the water carries pathogens, so affected porous materials are removed rather than dried. The area is cleaned, disinfected, and dried under containment, with cut lines set above the visible contamination mark.

Frequently asked questions

It rarely rains hard here. Why is the crawl space full of water all winter?

It rarely stops. The wet season here is steady drizzle from November to March rather than heavy storms, and under this suburb is a layer of glacial hardpan that water cannot pass. The ground above it fills in November and has no way to drain, so it stays saturated as long as the drizzle keeps arriving, which is until spring. A crawl space on that ground is over standing water for five months because none of it can leave.

We are on the edge of one of the ravines. Does that help or hurt?

It depends which side of the house faces it. The ravines are cut down through the till, and the ground on either side drains sideways toward them along the top of the hardpan. A house at the ravine edge has that flow passing under it, so the crawl space is a channel all winter. A house set back on flat ground has water perched under it that goes nowhere. The ravine drains the neighborhood through the lots along it.

The north side of the house has moss on the siding. Is that just cosmetic?

It is a sign the wall never dries. A north-facing wall under trees here gets no sun from October to April and is wetted by drizzle most days, so moss grows because the surface stays damp continuously. Behind that siding the sheathing is at the same humidity. The moss itself is harmless; the condition that grows it is what wets the wall. Letting light onto that side and keeping the siding clear changes the condition, not the symptom.
