Storm & Flood Damage Recovery in Rome, NY
From wind-driven rain to flash flooding, local professionals secure the property, extract standing water, dry the structure, and document all damage for the claim. Interior and exterior stabilization is handled to prevent secondary losses. Storm and flood recovery starts with protecting the opening that let water in, then extraction and structural drying, then documenting the loss. Because floodwater carries soil and debris, affected porous materials are removed rather than dried, and the structure is re-checked as it dries.
Frequently asked questions
The cellar is damp in dry weeks and drier in wet ones.
Near canal works that usually points at the managed level rather than the weather. These systems hold water at operating levels through the season and the groundwater alongside follows, so a basement cut close to that range is damper when the level is up. Noting when it is wet against the operating season generally reveals the pattern, and it moves the remedy from hunting a leak to managing groundwater.
Water does not seem to run anywhere on our lot.
Near a drainage divide that is literally true: there is very little gradient in either direction, so surface water sits rather than flowing. Drainage work only helps if there is somewhere lower to take it, and that has to be established before anything is dug. Where there is not, the practical approach is keeping standing water away from the building rather than trying to make it leave.
Why is March worse than October when October is the wettest month?
Because the ground enters the freeze already carrying October's water and frost holds it in place all winter. The melt then releases the accumulation over a couple of weeks onto ground still frozen below the surface, so it travels near the surface and collects against foundations. The wettest month loads the system and the melt is when it discharges, which is why the two do not coincide.
