Why is March worse than October when October is the wettest month?
Because the ground enters the freeze already carrying October's water and frost holds it in place all winter. The melt then releases the accumulation over a couple of weeks onto ground still frozen below the surface, so it travels near the surface and collects against foundations. The wettest month loads the system and the melt is when it discharges, which is why the two do not coincide.
